dINOSAUR NEWS NETWORK

What would the mass extinction of dinosaurs have looked like if they had evolved to the same level as humans? This project explores that question with a touch of humour, imagining a pair of dinosaur news reporters delivering a weather forecast to their viewers - unaware, or perhaps unwilling to accept, what is coming.

Based on an original sketch, the aim was to capture the nervous energy in their expressions while keeping the headline itself almost optimistically matter-of-fact. The goal was to honour the humour of the original concept while bringing greater life, depth, and detail to the characters and world around them.

FINAL OUTPUT

BACKGROUND ELEMENTS

After Effects was used to comp these individual elements using puzzle mattes from Cinema 4D. This was to help speed up the process of look dev and save on render times should anything need to be changed later down the line.

SIDE BY SIDE COMPARISON

Shown here is a side by side comparison of the original watercolour sketch and the final CG render. The charm of the original has been preserved throughout, while the transition to CG has allowed for a greater sense of dynamism - which was the primary goal of the brief. The addition of subtle skin textures and colour gradients play a key role in bringing the characters to life.
